The International Consumers Alliance (IOCU)

The International Consumers Alliance (IOCU) is an independent, non-profit, non-political organization. Founded in 1960 by consumer organizations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands, it is registered in the Netherlands, headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands, and Asia Pacific is located in Penang, Malaysia.

[Organizational purpose]

Assisting and actively promoting the efforts of consumer organizations and governments in various countries to protect consumers' interests in the world; promoting international cooperation in comparing and testing consumer services; promoting other aspects of consumer information, consumer education and consumer protection International cooperation; collecting and exchanging national laws and practices for the protection of consumers; providing a forum for groups of countries to discuss solutions to consumer interests; publishing information on consumer information; and maintaining effective links with United Nations agencies and other international groups, In order to represent the interests of consumers on an international scale; through the UN agencies and other feasible ways, give practical assistance and encouragement to developing countries' development plans for consumer education and protection.

【Organization Structure】

 The plenary assembly is composed of representatives elected by various member organizations. The Council is composed of 35 members elected by the meeting, and the Council appoints the Executive Committee. The staff is ten salaried. Funding comes from contributions and the sale of publications. Advising in relevant UN agencies. These institutions are: UN Economic and Social Council, UNESCO, UNICEF, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Consumer Advisory Council, European Consumer Protection Commission. At the same time, it is represented in the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and the United Nations Women’s Committee.
